JAPANESE TELEVISION TYPHOON REGGAE POLICE

Japanese Television’s new single is the fantastically chaotic cut, ‘Typhoon Reggae Police’. Their space-surf-psych-rock sound is out in full force here, with warped rhythms and structural strangeness colliding with a sonic palette that allows distant, retro keyboards to bounce off of the twang of one electric guitar and the wall of distortion of another. On the track’s creation, the band explain: “The song was the last to be recorded in the session and we were trying to get that ‘end of a gig’ energy into the track. The layered outro (using a wah-wah pedal that was owned by bassist Elea’s dad) was inspired by a week touring with GOAT and their duelling guitarists.” ‘Typhoon Reggae Police’ is taken from their upcoming second album Automata Exotica, which is set to be released on March 22nd, 2024 by Tip Top Recordings. -Dan Peeke
